My passion for storytelling and advocacy was sparked during a graduate research fellowship, where I discovered the power of science communication. I found joy in providing people with the information and agency to take control of their health and lives. This passion has fueled a distinguished career spanning 15+ years in public relations, marketing, content management, and communications—working with organizations dedicated to social impact, public health, and mission-driven causes.
As a former reporter for the Bay Area News Group, I channeled my inner journalist to create compelling content across digital and print mediums for hospitals, medical device companies, and nonprofit healthcare organizations. My experience spans all levels of communication, from writing and editing to managing content and leading internal communications. I’ve developed strategic campaigns that target direct-to-consumer initiatives, leveraging my unique background as both a brand journalist and marketer to create communications that resonate with diverse audiences.
Transition to Consulting Work
In 2016, I launched Temple Communications LLC, combining over a decade of experience with my master’s degree in journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. As the principal consultant, I partner with life science and social impact organizations to meet their full spectrum of marketing needs. My work ranges from high-level messaging strategy and editorial calendar creation to developing web content, blog posts, press releases, social media content, and marketing collateral.
My client list includes notable names such as Edwards Lifesciences, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Livings Life Science Solutions, the FH Foundation, and more. My versatility and dedication to impactful storytelling have helped me forge long-standing partnerships with mission-driven organizations.
Most notably, I served as Consulting Communications Director for the 2018 global March for Science. In this grassroots science advocacy project, I built an effective communications infrastructure, led the media campaign for the Washington, DC global march and rally, and revamped external and internal communications leading up to the event.
Making an Impact on Communities
Currently, I serve as the Senior Director of Marketing Communications at the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). I lead a talented team of five, manage external agencies, and oversee a nearly $2 million budget, driving initiatives in reputation management, branding, and strategic communications. My work at CIRM focuses on advancing the institute’s mission to accelerate stem cell treatments for patients with unmet medical needs, promoting the organization’s breakthroughs, and shaping public discourse around gene therapy, regenerative medicine, and stem cell research.
Beyond my professional career, I impact my community by serving as a board member for Jamal's Helping Hands, an organization dedicated to supporting families of color facing rare diseases. Through this role, I help shape strategies that provide critical resources and hope to families navigating rare disease diagnoses, ensuring they feel empowered and supported.
Passion Beyond Work
When I’m not tackling complex communications challenges, I find creative inspiration in traveling. I’ve lived in New York, London, and New Zealand, and that zest for discovery fuels both my professional and personal life. At home in Oakland, CA, I enjoy making up silly stories with my two kids and entertaining our 8-year-old Spaniel/Terrier pup.
